Three test tubes stand in a row within an old tube rack. You can tell it’s old because the surface is well-worn and pitted, showing its years of use. The test tube on the left is full of a clear liquid. Several bubbles in various sizes rise from the bottom. The bubbles gather at the opening of the test tube to form a pyramid-looking stack. The middle test tube is three-quarters of the way full with a clear liquid. Two tiny bubbles rise from the very bottom. A cork is pressed firmly into the opening. The test tube on the right is only a quarter of the way full, but the liquid is dark, almost black. A few bubbles spurt from the liquid but remain far from the opening.

Why brand awareness is a smarter approach to display advertising than direct response: read 193 words on The Davis Daily.

This is a collection of hand-sketched retail signs, promotional graphics, and shopping bags. There are nine in total. Each has the word SALE on it in capital letters. The letters are 3D in appearance, as are the graphics themselves. Some drawings are of arrows, pointing in various directions. One is a speech bubble, and another is a tag with string hanging from one end. There is a sign nailed to a pole and a paper bag with looped handles. The most extravagant drawings are jagged, starburst shapes, like something from a comic book, making the word SALE appear more impactful.

From strumming six strings to writing things for a living: reflecting on Mom’s advice in 210 words on The Davis Daily.

A robot head wears a human brain like a hat. The brain is pink, as you’d expect, with black rigid lines firing throughout, acting like brain waves. The robot’s head is grey, like the colour of stainless steel. It has two large, round eyes. Oddly, they are blue and very human-like. The robot doesn’t have a mouth, only two nuts and bolts on either side of a metal plate. The metal plate connects to the robot’s neck, which is made up of multiple rectangular pieces of metal stacked atop each other. The robot is attempting to mimic life, but it only stares back at you soullessly.

Three ovals with thick, black lines intersect to create the logo for the television show, The Big Bang Theory. Two of the ovals cross in a x shape, while the third oval lies on top, straight up and down. There’s a black circle in the middle of the ovals, another black circle on the oval that’s angled to the left, another black circle on the oval that’s angled to the right, and another black circle on the oval running straight up and down. Below the ovals is the word “bazinga!” in big block letters followed by an exclamation point. A thick black lightning bolt runs horizontal beneath the word bazinga.

The image is a close up of three hand-drawn pencils. The pencils are laying flat with the tips angled towards each other. Each tip is broken, with bits of lead strewn about the ends of the pencils. The image suggests a writer or artist is trying to master their craft, taking multiple attempts to get a particular piece of writing or artwork right.

Creativity, craft, the risk of going too fast: read 809 words on why you shouldn’t rush results in advertising, marketing, and branding.

A bushel of lilac flowers grows lush from a branch stemming from the main bush. The flower's petals are a mix of light purples and dark purples. Some are large and some are small. Some are pushed forward, their light purple petals beaming from being in the spotlight. Some are pushed back, their dark purple petals blush deeply from the attention. Two green leaves grow from a strong, brown stem. The lilac is pretty and fragrant, like the sweet smell of a summer’s morning after a light rain. It stands tall and proud. Three bulbs stand at the top of the bushel just about ready to bloom.
