This is a hand-drawn black-and-white illustration of a classic grandfather clock. The clock has a tall, elegant wooden frame with decorative molding at the top, featuring a curved, ornate design. The clock face is round with Roman numerals marking the hours and two hands indicating the time. It’s six after ten. The minute and hour hands are simple but bold, making them easy to read. Below the clock face, a glass-paneled compartment reveals the pendulum, which is a large, round disc hanging from a thin rod, along with two weights suspended by chains. The base of the clock is slightly wider for stability, with subtle detailing along its edges.

About mortality, regret, and the urgency of living fully. Read 632 words on The Davis Daily.

An hourglass shows the sands of time running out. Only a quarter of the sand remains within the top section of the hourglass. Three-quarters of the sand has piled up within the bottom section. The sand piles are shaped like teardrops. Mirroring each other and connected by a thin line of sand, like hands of death and life reaching for each other. The hourglass is held upright within a container. The top of the container is a layer of four flat bases, each one smaller in diameter than the other, creating a step-like platform. The bottom of the container is the same construction and shape as the top. The sides of the container are two pillars. Ornate in design but misshapen, as if reflecting life’s imperfections.

The Grim Reaper (also known as Death) stands in frame. The Reaper is wearing a hooded cloak. The hood is pulled over its head. A deep, black shadow hides its face. The Reaper is holding a scythe with a long brown shaft. There's a small chip along the lower edge of the claw-shaped blade. The Reaper’s body is angled to the right but its head is turned to the left. Death waits for somebody.
